Once again the star of the show for Leeds United on Sunday as they dispatched Millwall 2-0, Georginio Rutter will have been looking forward to teaming up with France’s U23s to work with Thierry Henry.
The forward played the entire 90 minutes and picked up two assists, but something clearly happened, as he has been forced to pull out of his national team’s setup on Monday morning.
This was announced by the French Football Federation, who put out a statement explaining that both the Leeds star and Montpellier’s Joris Chotard have forfeited their spots in the squad, leading Henry to call up Ryan Cherki.
On top of Cherki, Henry could also bring someone else in, although the FFF have stated he is ‘giving himself time’ as to whether he needs to.
This will be a blow for Rutter, who will have wanted to use this international break to cement his place in the France U23s’ plans ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
However, if he does continue his current form between now and the end of the season, he shouldn’t have too many issues, have scored seven goals and assisted another 18 in 40 appearances.
