Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Altay Bayındır has emerged as a surprise target for Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report from Turkey.
He has kept 12 clean sheets and conceded 35 goals from 32 matches in all competitions this season.
The 24-year-old’s contract is until June and Tottenham have come forward to sign him for free in the summer.
That’s according to Fotospor, who state the stopper has ‘signed a gentleman’s agreement’ with the north London club.
Hugo Lloris is the first-choice goalkeeper at Spurs, with Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman as the other two players in the same position in the squad. The latter has signed a new deal until 2025.
Spurs’ failure to conclude a negotiation with Napoli star Alex Meret saw them shift their focus on the Turkey international.
They have made an offer to Bayındır’s camp, where he will be the backup to Lloris for one or two seasons and then become Tottenham’s No.1.
Bayındır earns €450,000 [likely per year] at Fenerbahçe and demanded €1.25m to sign a new contract.
Tottenham’s offer will include an annual salary of £1m [€1.14m] excluding bonuses.
Fotospor are the only one reporting on this topic so far, and if Spurs are keen to sign Bayındır for free in the summer, there could be more reports on this case in Turkey and England soon.
