Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is in contention for the Bayern Munich job.
That’s according to Kicker journalist Georg Holzner, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to make this surprise claim.
On Wednesday, the Bundesliga winners announced that Thomas Tuchel will step down at the end of this season.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is an option for the Bavarian club, along with their former coach Hansi Flick, and Zinedine Zidane. The Aston Villa manager is now added to the list of candidates.
Holzner claims Emery is being watched by the German champions. He further adds the 52-year-old is ‘well known’ to Bayern, after the Spaniard managed Villarreal to victory over them.
The journalist makes no mention of whether the former Arsenal coach is open to leaving Aston Villa for Bayern.
Aston Villa took Emery from Villarreal in October 2022 and he guided them to a seventh place finish last season.
The Villans have enjoyed an impressive run in the league this season and are currently fourth in the table, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Aston Villa are also in the running to win the UEFA Conference League.
