Lecce have been left surprised to find defender Gustav Lagerbielke has not been playing for Celtic, leading them to question why the Scottish side blocked a move in January.
That’s according to Calcio Lecce, who say the Italian team are baffled that the defender is ‘still on the fringes’ under Brendan Rodgers.
They explain that Lagerbielke was very close to joining Lecce in January but Celtic ultimately blocked the deal from happening, preferring to keep him as a part of their squad.
He, though, hasn’t actually been handed the chance to express himself in the weeks since, instead remaining on the fringes at Celtic.
The belief had been that he would be given a chance to impress after an injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers but that has not been the case, a frustrating matter given Lagerbielke had been keen on the move to Italy.
The decision to leave Lagerbielke out has even surprise Celtic fans, who consider him better than those who are being picked ahead of him.
Lecce are of a similar mind, believing Rodgers may have well sanctioned the deal and let him leave for Italy and a place where he is wanted, something that does not appear to be the case at Celtic.
