Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix has been speaking during the current international break, and turned up with a surprise claim that Leeds United are the Premier League club he consider his favourite.
During a chat with Adri Contreras, the Portugal international was asked various things. One was who he wants to win the Champions League, and he answered Atletico or Benfica.
Another was who he’s backing for the next Ballon d’Or, and for that he picked Real Madrid’s Kairm Benzema. On the player who he modelled himself on a youngster, that was Kaka, and then came the Premier League question.
Mundo Deportivo say Joao Felix made a surprise choice by picking Leeds United. A move there is obviously very unlikely, given Atletico paid more than €120m to Benfica for the player.
There’s every chance the 22-year-old picked Leeds so as not to send the rumour mill into overdrive. Had he gone for one of the Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal then the rumours would have been never-ending.
The Whites also gained many fans during the Marcelo Bielsa era, with the club’s style of play receiving praise from around the world.
