Arsenal’s central defender transfer chase may well just have got a little more dramatic, if not entirely truthful.
Marca report in their Thursday edition that Arsenal have knocked on the door of Atletico Madrid, and have a serious interest in signing Jose Gimenez.
The Uruguayan defender has been linked with a transfer several times over the summer, and was said to be so upset at being left out of the Champions League final line-up that he was struggling to come to terms with it… even after his summer holidays.
It’s that kind of passion which helps Gimenez be such a good defender, and one of the best young players in his position on the planet. Clubs like Arsenal should be interested in him if they want a central defender, but he plays for Atletico Madrid so won’t be cheap.
Gimenez has a buyout clause of €65m and Marca say it’s that which Atletico would be expecting if the Uruguayan was to leave the club this summer. The newspaper feel the 21 year old has shown he’s worth that kind of money.
Atletico seem to often leak approaches for their players to the media, real or not.
