Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is like Superman wrapped up in the veneer of a Rolls-Royce, with his performance against Everton another demonstration of it.
That’s according to journalist Süleyman Öztürk, who has heaped praised on the Tottenham man in comments relayed by Voetbal Zone.
Van de Ven has been impressing since joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg in the summer and after bouncing back from injury has re-established himself in the heart of Ange Postecoglou’s side again in recent weeks.
He continued his rapid rise in the 2-2 draw with Everton over the weekend with another impressive display, highlighting all of his strengths in what was a trick encounter at Goodison Park.
Alongside his composure on the ball and comfort playing out from the back he also proved to be a defensive rock, hardly giving Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Jack Harrison an opportunity.
One particular incident saw him racing back to deny the latter when he appeared to be clean through, eating up the ground with an impressive short distance sprint that has left many talking and likening him to Usain Bolt.
Öztürk goes one further, though, and believes the Tottenham man could be giving the Man of Tomorrow a challenge if it ever come to it.
“Van de Ven was singled out because they were all impressed by his speed,” he said.
“He easily defends spaces of fifty to sixty meters. Three or four times in this match he had a moment where he made up a significant deficit, including against Everton midfielder Jack Harrison.
“Harrison was about ten or fifteen meters ahead and then Mickey van de Ven turned on the turbo and overtook him and managed to prevent worse with a great tackle.
“Virgil van Dijk was once called a Rolls-Royce and Gary Lineker made this comparison again in the broadcast. They are really deeply impressed by his speed and the way in which Van de Ven now manifests himself week in, week out in Tottenham’s backline.
“He was also impressive against Manchester City a week and a half ago and now this match against Everton. It is unbelievable what kind of development he is going through now; he is a Superman in a Rolls-Royce.”
