AS Monaco are eyeing a move for Sunderland winger Simon Adingra in the summer transfer window.

Foot Sur 7 report that making the Sunderland winger’s loan deal a permanent one has become a priority for the Ligue 1 club.

Sunderland loan successful

The website explains that Monaco are already anticipating its summer transfer window. They are seeking stability after a difficult season in Ligue 1. That means decisions have to be made on current loan players, Wout Faes and Simon Adingra.

Both players were signed in the January transfer window, from Leicester and Sunderland respectively, and quickly settled in the Principality.

The Sunderland winger in particular ‘distinguished himself’ with his versatility and attacking influence. He managed three goals and two assists during his loan spell with the Ligue 1 club.

His loan deal includes an option to make it permanent for €17m. That is considered high by Monaco’s management in the current climate.

They do not appear willing to exercise the option for now. Instead, negotiations with Sunderland are planned to try and work out a solution which suits all parties.

€25m market value, €17m purchase option

Those negotiations are likely to be complex due to Adingra’s high market value. He is currently valued at €25m by Transfermarkt, so Sunderland would surely demand the full option is paid.

The solution, perhaps, is that they pay more this summer but work out a payment plan with Sunderland that suits all parties. The Black Cats paid €24.4m to sign Adingra from Brighton last summer, and the €17m is presumably the lowest they can take to avoid a capital loss.

What the 24-year-old wants for his future, isn’t made clear. He has clearly enjoyed himself in Monaco, who want to keep him, but only on their own terms. It’s now a question of whether Sunderland will accept whatever those terms are.
