A few days ago, we relayed a couple of articles from Italy regarding Sunderland’s interest in Torino defender Davide Zappacosta.
Gazzamercato claimed the Black Cats were exploring the possibility of signing the player, while TuttoMercatoWeb suggested the Premier League club were ready to spend €10m on him.
Torino were said to be considering it, and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the door isn’t closed yet.
The Italian newspaper look at the Serie A club’s interest in Sampdoria defender Lorenzo De Silvestri, who has pretty much completed his move to Torino, and how this would impact Zappacosta.
The idea that the 24-year-old remains hasn’t been discarded, but the arrival of De Silvestri certainly provides strong competition, and could see him sit on the bench as much as he did last season when Bruno Peres was the starter.
They say Sunderland are insisting with their interest in Zappacosta, and the €10m bid has already been made for the defender.
It’s been put to one side for now, but not ‘archived’, meaning they’re still considering it.
Such an amount for a backup defender, albeit a young one, might be too much to refuse as the transfer window carries on.
