Sunderland star Wilson Isidor has revealed he would give his “body and soul” for manager Regis Le Bris, who he credits with saving his career.
L’Equipe have an interview with the Sunderland striker today in which he heaps praise on Le Bris once more. He also reveals he’s dreaming of the World Cup next summer because of him.
Isidor has been a sensation for Sunderland this season, with three goals in six games in the Premier League to date.
It’s continued his fine form from last season, in which he bagged 12 goals in 43 games in the Championship as Sunderland secured promotion to the Premier League.
He arrived at the Stadium of Light last summer on loan from Zenit St Petersburg, where he had fallen out of favour. He previously joined them after a successful spell at Lokomotiv Moscow, where he scored 19 goals in 42 games.
He’s already admitted that Le Bris was key to him making the move to Sunderland, and now admits he’s give everything for the French boss.
“I was the third striker at the start of the season,” he said.
“Régis (Le Bris) has always been clear with me. He told me, “We’re going to have to deal with the competition.”
“We have a great relationship. He was the one who came to get me in Russia when I wasn’t even playing football anymore. I would give my body and soul for him. So, I told myself I had to show that I was there. I started on the bench at West Ham, came on, and scored.
“The next game, I didn’t score, and now I told myself I had to do even better. My daughter was born before the third game; I was supposed to start, but I didn’t have 90 minutes in my legs. I came on late in the game and scored again. I’m a hard worker; I’m not here to accept my fate.”
His start to life in the Premier League is certainly an unexpected one, with the gap between the Championship and the top flight often a hard one for strikers to bridge.
He hasn’t found that yet and is already proving to be a key player in Sunderland’s strong start to the season. That’s led him to eyeing up the World Cup next summer.
He’s played for France at every level but the senior team but could also feature for Haiti if he changes allegiance. That’s a decision he’s yet to make.
“I’d like to set the goal of going to the World Cup; it’s definitely still a dream,” he added.
“I have two options: France and Haiti. Haiti has already approached me, but I haven’t made a decision yet. I’m already focusing on my club.”
