Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka is ‘eager to join’ Beşiktaş this summer, and they will potentially sit down with him in the coming weeks.

Sabah report that the Turkish side will seek an opinion on the Sunderland star from manager Sergen Yalçın before making any moves for him.

Meeting for Sunderland man

The newspaper explains that a meeting will be held following the upcoming clash with Çaykur Rizespor. Manager Sergen Yalçın will sit down with president Serdal Adalı to discuss their plans for next season.

Names on their agenda will be evaluated in that meeting. Granit Xhaka will be one the names discussed in that meeting. And depending on how it goes, a decision will be made from there.

If both parties are positive about a move for the Sunderland captain, Beşiktaş may sit down with Sunderland to discuss the 33-year-old.

A move for Xhaka is not currently at the top of the list of priorities, but that could change depending on Sergen Yalçın’s opinion. Sabah report that Xhaka is ‘keen to play’ for Beşiktaş. He will also be in Türkiye this summer, spending his summer break in Antalya.

Sunderland resistance

Sunderland’s priority, meanwhile, is to keep the midfielder this summer. He’s been a key player in their impressive return to the Premier League this year. The Black Cats have no intention of it being a short relationship.

The Switzerland international has featured in 84% of the possible minutes in the Premier League this season. He’s also been in the starting XI 83% of the time as well. He is, by every definition, a key player for Regis Le Bris.

His current deal also runs until 2028, so there is no immediate pressure or need to sell this summer either. That is, unless, Xhaka pushes for a move. For now, he appears to just be flirting with the idea of a move to Beşiktaş rather than outright trying to make it happen.
