Former Liverpool midfielder João Carlos Teixeira is being linked with a Sunderland move on Monday. Three of the best selling sports newspapers in Portugal are reporting it: A Bola, Record and O Jogo.
A Bola claims that the Black Cats have made an approach and want the player on a loan deal, which would be made in January.
According to the newspaper, Porto haven’t considered the offer yet, but the possibility is “not ruled out”, as the player’s start at the Portuguese club hasn’t been good as expected.
The big difference between the stories from A Bola, Record and O Jogo’s is that the latter two are saying that the claims are made by the Spanish outlet Don Balón, who aren’t exactly the most reliable website in Europe.
A Bola often has exclusives on transfer stories and we’d certainly believe it’s one of their own in normal conditions, but it’s hard to say so in this case, as all the papers are reporting the news on the very same day and two of them crediting their source to another outlet.
Teixeira had a very good pre-season, but has failed to get any official minutes for Porto so far. He moved from Liverpool this summer for free.
