Sunderland should be able to agree a good deal with Sporting CP for the loan of Marcus Edwards, with the Lisbon club trying to get him out of the door for much of the winter market.
During the summer, there were claims Sporting were looking for €20-30m to part ways with the Englishman. Whilst that always looked rather ambitious, it’s what has happened since which has seen his value plummet to the stage there’s been no takers at €8m.
The 26-year-old has reportedly had multiple disciplinary issues and Rui Borges has kept him out of the Sporting squad. Edwards has played less than 400 minutes of football this season, with his last appearance coming in November.
Friday’s edition of Record leads with Sunderland interest, and mentions Burnley are interest too.
Edwards is described as being ‘close to the exit door’, but it’s once again stated Sporting ‘are struggling to place him’.
Sunderland and Burnley are said to have been in contact to understand the conditions of a deal, with the Black Cats presented as a stronger option.
Edwards recently changed agents, although even that didn’t manage to find him the interest he perhaps feels he should be getting.
The Portuguese media have repeatedly stated a loan could be available, and that could be the method Sunderland are looking at.
