Since November, Sunderland have been backed to move for Lazio’s Matteo Guendouzi.

The Italian press also took note of Regis Le Bris’ comments about the midfielder, taking them as confirmation of interest.

Lazio’s dire financial situation also encourages the rumour. They want to avoid another transfer ban and selling the Frenchman would help.

Corriere dello Sport today again cover Sunderland interest in the 26-year-old.

The newspaper report Lazio need ‘lucrative offers’ to sell the player but there is some encouragement for Le Bris’ side, who are said to be preparing a bid.

Previous reports spoke of a €20m price tag but Corriere dello Sport indicate that Sunderland can now get the deal done for €15-20m.

Even if Guendouzi is one of Maurizio Sarri’s favourites, he is a major candidate to depart next month.

La Repubblica previously reported Guendouzi isn’t super keen on a move to Sunderland. He has the ambition of playing in one of the UEFA competitions. Despite a great start to the season, even qualifying for the Conference League could be a stretch.
