Eliezer Mayenda has made five appearances for Sunderland this season, managing a goal in the process.

The 20-year-old performances for Sunderland helped him return to Spain’s U21 squad last month. He was called up again for October’s international break.

RFEF, the Spanish football association’s official website, have published an interview with the Sunderland player.

During the course of the discussion, the striker revealed WWE star Randy Orton sent him a message after Sunderland secured promotion to the Premier League.

The Black Cats came from behind to beat Sheffield United 2-1 in the play-off final in May. Mayenda scored the equaliser in the 76th minute and Tom Watson netted the late winner.

After scoring at Wembley, Mayenda celebrated by replicating Randy Orton’s signature pose. The American professional wrestler took notice of this.

The Spaniard reveals that Randy Orton contacted him to congratulate on Sunderland’s success. He remains hopeful the WWE star visits to watch the Premier League club live in action.

“After the final, he wrote to me and congratulated me on the promotion. We were talking. If he comes to watch a Sunderland game, he might do it again. I’ll have to ask him, the celebration is his,” he said.

The frontman then explained the appreciation from the Sunderland fans has pleased both him and his family.

“There’s a special connection with the fans, with the Sunderland fans. It brings a lot of happiness. My dad really likes my song,” Mayenda explained.
