Sunderland’s Jenson Seelt completed a loan move to VfL Wolfsburg on summer deadline day.
The centre-back initially missed the first few weeks of the season due to injury. Since regaining full fitness, he’s been a regular and made 12 appearances for the Bundesliga club.
Earlier this week, Sky Deutschland reported Wolfsburg want to sign him permanently and have initiated talks with Sunderland.
Kicker now report the German club have decided to keep the 22-year-old beyond this season. Former manager Paul Simonis pushed for the Dutchman’s arrival, but he has club-wide support.
Wolfsburg parted ways with Simonis in November and appointed Daniel Bauer as interim manager. The Black Cats man has kept his place in the starting lineup.
Seelt is comfortable with his life in Germany and is open to a longer stay at Wolfsburg, however, it will not be easy for the Bundesliga side to buy him.
Kicker reports they have secured a purchase option of €15m, but this seems to be high for them. It’s further claimed Seelt is attracting interest from other clubs.
According to the report, unnamed Spanish sides have already contacted Sunderland regarding Seelt. Therefore, Wolfsburg are expected to make contact to try and lower the price.
Sky have already reported initial talks between the two clubs. A fresh approach is now expected from Wolfsburg to sign the Dutchman permanently.
