Benfica’s chase for the Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong is starting to be taken as a serious possibility by the Portuguese newspapers.

This Monday, outlet Record reckons that the player could be landing in Lisbon for a loan deal with the Eagles.

They say the player is an ‘option’ for Benfica, and the club are willing to make an offer for a loan with an option to buy.

It’s claimed that Ndong is not keen on playing the League One, and is attracted by the chance of featuring in a ‘more competitive’ league. That’s why he sees the move to Lisbon with ‘good eyes’.

Correio da Manhã doesn’t say how much Benfica would pay for the loan or for a permanent transfer.

Ndong didn’t even get on the bench in any of Sunderland’s five games this season, so it would be no surprise to see him leaving this summer. He has a contract with the club until 2021.
