Sunderland failed with a summer move for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi, despite weeks of trying. They haven’t given up and are waiting for January.
This comes from today’s Corriere di Bologna, who look at the South American’s future.
The newspaper reports Bologna’s attempts to renew Lucumi’s contract are proving to be very complex.
No terms have been agreed, with the 27-year-old’s current deal running out in 2027. While the player is considering Bologna’s offer, his agent is pushing for a move to Sunderland.
Regis Le Bris’ side have offered €30m and a wage of €3m per season to the defender. This offer is still on the table, with the salary offer likely to be after tax.
Bologna are expecting a response from their player by January. If no progress is made, an exit will become inevitable.
The Serie A club would prefer to wait until the end of the season on a football basis. However, given he’d only have a year of contract left, the pressure would be higher at that time.
