On Tuesday, Il Messaggero provided major encouragement to Sunderland in their move for Lazio’s Matteo Guendouzi.
The newspaper made it clear that the Italian side are desperate for capital gains in January. The Frenchman is one of their most valuable assets and his sale can free up a lot of financial wiggle room.
More hope has now arrived for Sunderland from two newspapers today.
Corriere dello Sport report the Black Cats are now pushing for a move.
The Italian newspaper explain Aston Villa and Newcastle United tried to land the midfielder in the summer. Now, Regis Le Bris’ side are in the driving seat.
Today’s Il Messaggero adds more.
They report Sunderland are willing to offer €25-30m for the player. This would be useful for Lazio as they need to reduce their labour costs to avoid another transfer ban.

Sunderland are yet to make any formal offer for the player. The rumour was encouraged last week when Regis Le Bris spoke of his relationship with Guendouzi, rather than dodging questions about transfer interest.
Whether this is a case of the Italian media then getting carried away – which is a possibility – or genuine intention, remains to be seen.
There’s not long now until the winter window opens.
