Sunderland have expressed interest in signing young Swedish striker Jesper Karlsson, reports Swedish website Fotball Direkt.

Fotball Direkt say the Falkenbergs FF striker could cost Sunderland 6-8m Swedish Krona, which is around £500k to £700k.

Sunderland, however, face competition from Manchester United, who are also interested in signing the 18-year-old.

Falkenbergs FF’s sporting director, Håkan Nilsson, has been speaking to Fotball Direkt. Nilsson says the club won’t stop the player from leaving if he wants to.

He said: “So, the whole time I’ve been in Falkenberg we have never stopped anyone. If Jesper wants to leave we will not stand in the way but we need to be understood too and make the best deal possible. It is obvious.”

Fotball Direkt say Karlsson’s agent refused to comment on the striker’s future. The 18-year-old has two years left on his contract.
