Lazio’s Mattéo Guendouzi is being ‘tracked’ by Sunderland, according to RMC Sport.

The Black Cats have secured a promotion to the Premier League and have already lost Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund.

Régis Le Bris will be looking to further strengthen his squad and seems to have identified the Lazio player as a target.

The Sunderland manager knows the France international first hand as he had previously managed him at FC Lorient. He played 24 games under Le Bris’ orders at the French club.

It’s claimed the English club have initiated contact to ask about the former Arsenal man.

The Serie A side are going through financial difficulties, and this could force them to sell some of their top assets. RMC Sport say Sunderland knocking on Lazio’s door for their midfielder could help them.

Sunderland haven’t converted their interest into an offer, while it’s unclear whether the Frenchman is willing to join them this summer.

Earlier today, we covered claims from France that Sunderland have reached a ‘three-way agreement’ to sign RC Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra. He operates in the same position as Guendouzi and it’s doubtful whether Sunderland would need both.
