One of the bolder moves from Sunderland AFC last summer was to bring in Edouard Michut on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Black Cats took a gamble on the young midfielder, but were prepared to trust him enough to add an option to buy in his contract.

The amount they would need to pay would depend on whether Sunderland get promoted or not, with the price doubling if they were to return to the Premier League, according to L’Equipe.

The French newspaper look at the situation on Tuesday, and explain that after a tough first half of the season, the midfielder has finally found his feet at the Stadium of Light.

In fact, it’s believed that Sunderland ‘should trigger his option to buy’, which stands at €2.5m if they stay in the Championship or €5m if they go up.

Not only that, but a ‘meeting with the president is planned’ to get that done, meaning that, as far as L’Equipe are concerned, the player will be staying at Sunderland next season.

Since joining, Michut has made 25 appearances for the Black Cats’ first-team, scoring one goal and picking up three yellow cards along the way
