Earlier on Tuesday, a surprise report emerged that Sunderland were in the process of getting a deal done for Romaine Mundle.
The young forward had escaped England after refusing to extend his contract at Tottenham and headed to Belgium, where he signed with Standard Liege.
That didn’t quite go to plan, as just seven appearances later, he will be heading back to his home country, where Sunderland are sorting out a permanent transfer for him, as explained by DH.
While that isn’t news at this stage, what is is the amount the Black Cats are paying the Belgian side for the 20-year-old’s services.
DH reveal that the two clubs still haven’t found an agreement on the amount, although it’s currently oscillating at around €1.5-2m.
They add that should everything go through, ‘bonuses will be added’ to that initial fee.
Therefore, it appears that Sunderland aren’t breaking the bank for the London-born forward, who appears to have jumped at the chance to come back to his home country.
A previous report stated the player would be signing a contract with the Championship side until 2027.
