Just in case getting relegated while being on loan at Sunderland wasn’t bad enough, things just got a little worse for Jason Denayer.

The 21-year-old defender came off after 20 minutes at the weekend against Swansea with a knee injury, and it appears the Manchester City loanee could have played his final game for the Black Cats this season.

Scheduled to return to the Etihad at the end of the season, DH in Belgium are reporting that, according to their own sources, Denayer was in a lot of pain on Sunday night, with the website speculating he might not be fit for the final two games of the season against Arsenal and Chelsea.

While the results of those games matter little considering Sunderland are already heading for the Championship, David Moyes would undoubtedly have liked to field the Belgium international in those fixtures, having relied on him heavily throughout the season.

Denayer has, injuries permitting, been close to ever present for the Black Cats, making 27 appearances in all competitions this season.
