Despite claims that Swansea City, Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle were all trying to sign Romaine Mundle from Standard Liège on loan, it’s Sunderland who will be welcoming the former Tottenham player.
The young winger refused to extend his contract at Spurs over the course of the summer and opted for a free transfer to Belgium, but that move didn’t go to plan.
Mundle has hardly featured, which is why a return to England has been sought, and Sacha Tavolieri reports it’s Sunderland who have won the race.
It’s revealed the forward ‘will be leaving’ Standard Liège in the last few days of the transfer window, and the Belgian side are ‘currently negotiating the final details’ of the player’s move to Wearside.
The move will be a permanent transfer for Mundle, who is expected to sign a deal with Sunderland until 2027, meaning the Black Cats are ready to trust him and give him time to develop his potential.
Since joining Standard, the player had made seven appearances for the first-team, totalling a mere 165 minutes of football.
