Sunderland are considering a second attempt for Armand Laurienté after their summer deal collapsed.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who report that the winger remains on Sunderland’s radar despite the summer transfer drama.
Laurienté currently has a deal with Sassuolo until 2027, and the Italian side want to fully understand his intentions. He did everything he could to leave in the summer.
If he doesn’t sign a new deal, Sassuolo are likely to pursue a deal in January. Whether for him to leave that month or in the summer transfer window.
Sunderland are one of their options after their attempt to sign Laurienté in the summer transfer window. There are also Turkish options in Fenerbahce and Besiktas. They, though, are yet to get close to the figures that Sassuolo want. They’ve set an asking price of €15-20m including bonuses.
Sunderland could potentially match that figure. They spent big in the summer and have not shown any reluctance to spend to reinforce their options.
It all depends on Laurienté and his contract. If he shows any willingness to sign a new deal, a transfer isn’t needed. If he doesn’t, then Sunderland remain in the picture.
