Multiple English clubs have been linked with Tarik Muharemovic in recent months but Sunderland could be leading the race.
The centre-back had a very impressive 2025/26 campaign with Sassuolo. He helped them secure a solid mid-table finish after promotion from Serie B, becoming one of the best defenders in the top-flight.
Soon, his performances attracted global attention. Sport Witness covered how Aston Villa were in the mix to sign him, with Inter Milan also keen.
Muharemovic kept his form going at the World Cup. He put in good performances for Bosnia, bringing him wider attention.
Now, Sunderland are a candidate to sign him.
Juventus can drop out
Some weeks ago, Juventus appointed ex-Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali as their CEO. Following that, it became clear that Juve could have a direct line with the Neroverdi to re-sign Tarik Muharemovic.
Alfredo Pedulla now reports that the centre-back isn’t a priority for the Old Lady. They don’t want to go beyond €15m to sign a new defender, with Muharemovic likely to cost more.
This has led to a Premier League move becoming likelier for the Bosnian.
Journalist Luca Cilli adds his own information, clarifying that Sunderland can make a formal move ‘in the coming hours’. Bournemouth are also interested but Juve’s chances of signing Muharemovic are losing ground.
They are ‘quite a way behind’, with the Black Cats and Cherries likely the favourites for his signature.
Big signing for Black Cats
Tarik Muharemovic is only 23 and has much room for growth. He’s good on the ball and carrying it forward. Physically, he’s Premier League ready, and he enjoys winning the ball back.
If Sunderland succeed, they could sign a future star. This is also evidenced by the fact that Inter saw him as a replacement for Alessandro Bastoni.
Playing in Europe would be the natural next step for Muharemovic and the Black Cats can offer him that next season.
