This week, Tuttosport have been strangely confident about Juventus’ chances of signing Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka.
The Turin newspaper believed that the Italian side have been in contact with the player’s entourage. They explained this is because the midfielder now wants to play for a Champions League club.
This was obviously hard to believe and probably more a case of Tuttosport trying to manifest something into reality. Still, the claims of contact brought a little concern.
Denials have now arrived from JuveLive. The outlet report that Sunderland have no intention of selling Xhaka in January.
The Switzerland man is intent on helping the Black Cats qualify for Europe. Juve have been told to focus on other objectives, with a move for the Sunderland player deemed ‘impossible’.
The 33-year-old’s contract at the Stadium of Light expires in 2028. This would also make any January transfer very complicated.
Besides, Sunderland put in quite a lot of effort to sign the player from Bayer Leverkusen. Xhaka’s agent pushed for a transfer and considering that, it is difficult to tempt the veteran into another move once again.
Things couldn’t be going better for Xhaka, so twisting seems unlikely. The once again mighty Sunderland have snuffed this one out for Juventus.
