Matteo Guendouzi has had a frustrating 2025/26 season at Lazio. The midfielder is now said to be attracting attention from Newcastle United and Sunderland.

The Frenchman’s situation is covered in today’s Corriere dello Sport.

The newspaper explains the 26-year-old has ‘lost momentum’ this season. He hasn’t adapted to Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system and Lazio’s uncertain financial state has brought further trouble.

Newcastle United and Sunderland are mentioned in the article as interested clubs.

Even though Sarri wants the player to stay, Lazio will not reject any major offers which come their way. The Italian side would much rather consider a summer sale but everything depends on what offers arrive.

Il Messaggero also cover the ex-Arsenal man’s struggles.

They do not mention Sunderland, but Newcastle United are presented as a candidate to sign the midfielder.

The outlet claim that Lazio currently value Guendouzi at €25-30m. The player was worth €50m (which feels an exaggeration) in the summer but his poor performances have led to a reduction in his value.

It is believed that interest from English clubs will now be readily welcomed by Lazio. The club are looking to capital profits soon and Guendouzi’s sale is viewed as a way to achieve that.
