In recent days it’s emerged Martin Skrtel’s proposed move to Rangers broke down because the Scottish Premiership couldn’t meet his demands, as explained by the player’s agent.
Rangers had reportedly tabled an offer for Skrtel and a possible reunion with his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard looked to be on the cards.
The Scottish Premiership side will lose David Bates to Hamburg on a free transfer next month and Gerrard may look to bring in a central defender to fill the void, especially with Bruno Alves turning 37 this year.
Skrtel looked to be a prime target for the Ibrox club, but his wages became an issue, as confirmed by the agent.
Futbal Arena now report the offers Fenerbahce have recently received have been deemed to be too low, with Rangers mentioned, so the Turkish club are looking at other options to offload the Slovakia international.
Due to his €4.5m a season salary the Yellow Canaries still want to sell Skrtel this summer, but with Rangers now seemingly out of the picture they could look to China or Qatar.
