Leeds United were pushing to sign SC Freiburg’s Rolland Sallai in the summer transfer window but their attempts didn’t lead to the Hungarian moving to Elland Road.
It now seems as if Leeds’ failure to sign Sallai could prove to be a burden for Freiburg, who would much rather have earned from his sale than have him part of their squad in the 2024/25 season.
Sport BILD report today that the 27-year-old had a market value of €15m in the summer and his sale would have been ‘important’ for the German club’s balance sheet.
That is because his current deal at the side runs out in the summer of 2025 and this summer was Freiburg’s biggest chance of selling the player for a good fee. It was Sallai himself who didn’t want the move to Leeds and turned the opportunity down, despite Freiburg’s attempts to sell him.
He’s made a couple of appearances in the Bundesliga this season but has only come off the bench so far and it remains to be seen if he becomes a regular starter for the club or not.
