Manchester City’s sudden interest in Real Madrid’s Rodrygo may be down to the player, who is sending a warning out to the Spanish giants.
That’s according to journalist Manu Carreño, who believes there may be a small transfer game going on with the Brazilian using Manchester City to his advantage.
Rodrygo recently lit the blue touch paper on a potential transfer this summer by suggesting he would be open to leaving Real Madrid if he didn’t feel valued by the club and insisting that the Premier League was a door which was always open for him.
That naturally sparked a slew of rumours about a potential move, with all of the top six linked in various articles, comments and speculation over the last few days.
Manchester City have been named as suitors on more than one occasion, with journalist Javier Tintó insisting yesterday that the two parties were flirting with each other, and the reports were not coincidental.
Cadena SER pick up on that and cover coverage of the matter from DAZN, where Manu Carreño shared his opinion on things.
He pointed out that two things are currently in play when it comes to Rodrygo, the fact that next year he will have to fight harder for minutes thanks to the arrival of Endrick and potentially Kylian Mbappe, and the fact he has offers from the Premier League.
According to him the forward has already ‘received interest’ from the Premier League and Manchester City are one of those who’ve shown it. Pep Guardiola ‘especially likes him’ and ‘would love’ to have him as part of his team.
This is something Rodrygo is aware of, and his latest comments are ‘a kind of warning’ for Real Madrid, with him making it clear he has options and can leave.
The suggestion is that he may be using Manchester City’s interest to his advantage, fuelling the fire somewhat to let Madrid know that he has options, perhaps in an attempt to scare them and thus solidify his place for next season.
