Thiago Alcântara has a year left on his contract at Bayern Munich and has decided against signing an extension.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed the Spain international is looking for a new challenge this summer.

The midfielder joined the Bundesliag winners from Barcelona in 2013 and prior to joining them he has heavily linked with Manchester United.

Earlier reports indicated a move to Old Trafford didn’t materialise because David Moyes wasn’t in favour of his signing.

Sport has a report on Thiago and his brother, Rafinha, who is currently on loan at Celta Vigo from Barcelona. And Manchester United get a surprising, but very direct, mention.

According to the Catalan newspaper, Rafinha’s future seems far away from the Camp Nou and Barca leaders are expected to have an ‘imminent meeting’ with his agent, after the 2019/20 La Liga season is concluded later this weekend.

Sport claim Rafinha is attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League and if he manages to seal a move there, he could reunite with Thiago in England, who according to Sport, is ‘about to leave Bayern Munich and sign for Manchester United’.

It’s also worth noting that Sport are the same newspaper who reported Thiago is ‘very close’ to joining Liverpool, even though German and British press denied any interest from the Reds in the ex-Barca man.

Although we don’t rule out the possibility of Thiago joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, we would suggest you to take this report from Sport with a pinch of salt.
