Manchester United’s search for a new centre-back has resulted in reports linking a handful of players to the Red Devils.

For the past few weeks, reports in Italy have regularly discussed the Old Trafford club as one of the suitors for Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenković.

On Tuesday, Calciomercato explained the defender is a ‘concrete objective’ for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and they have initiated contact with his agent, Fali Ramadani. This came a day after Gazzetta dello Sport had gone with a similar line.

The Serbia international’s contract runs down in 2022. According to La Repubblica, he has decided against signing an extension, despite efforts made by La Viola.

It’s claimed the centre-back has ‘offers’ from both Italy and abroad, and the report follows it up saying the ‘most impressive one comes from England’, from Manchester United. In this regard it seems like they’re talking about a general offer to make a transfer happen, rather than a financial bid at this stage.

The newspaper are of the belief the Premier League side could make a bid of around €35m.

AC Milan are also interested in the player, while Atlético Madrid were keen on him in the past. To sum it up, ‘there is no shortage of possibilities’ for Milenković.

La Repubblica state the defender’s situation at the club is ‘compromised’, which could be due to his contract situation. In the event the Serie A side give up on Milenković, it’s to be seen how they plan on to invest the money earned through his sale.

Recent reports from Italy have placed Manchester United as the frontrunners to sign the player, who is expected to leave Fiorentina after this season. Whether or not the same position will be maintained until the summer window opens remains to be seen.
