Two months ago, Bruno Guimarães committed his long-term future to Newcastle United by signing a new deal lastinguntil 2028.
That hasn’t stopped him from being linked with a move to Barcelona as the midfielder is on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo.
The La Liga side want to strengthen their defensive midfield position next summer and the Newcastle star has been identified as one of the three targets.
The Brazil international is mentioned first in the report as the Catalan club ‘really like’ him.
A potential deal won’t be easy to carry out because it’s said the player has a £100m release clause in his current deal at the Tyneside club.
Despite this, Mundo suggest the Spanish giants could try to sign Guimarães by including some of their own players as part of the deal. They haven’t provided any names but said it would be those who could interest Eddie Howe’s side.
This may be the only way Barca could take the South American away from Newcastle.
Guimarães has scored a goal and registered two assists from 21 games this season.
Along with the former Lyon man, Barcelona are also monitoring Everton’s Amadou Onana and AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana.
