On Sunday we covered claims from Italy that Newcastle United are close to signing Valentino Lazaro. The right sided player hasn’t had a lot of joy since his move from Hertha Berlin to Inter Milan, and an exit is on the cards.

The player’s agent Max Hagmayr was said to have travelled to Newcastle over the weekend, to sort out personal terms on a transfer. With the idea being Newcastle would loan the player and have a buying option, terms would need to be agreed on a contract from the summer onward.

Gazzetta dello Sport, who sounded confident, said Lazaro would be moving for a €2m loan fee, with Newcastle having a buying option set at €20m.

Steve Bruce’s side may need to hurry, because Bild report there’s interest from RB Leipzig. There’s already been contact between the Bundesliga club and the player’s camp.

He’s one of their options, and the Germans are continuing to look around the market, but it’s clearly more than passing interest if they’ve been in contact.
