Newcastle United are reportedly one of the candidates to sign Monaco’s director of football Paul Mitchell.
As today reported by the French media, the chief is leaving the Ligue 1 side soon. L’Equipe writes that he feels like his mission at the club is done, and following the rejection of a contract extension, he’s set to leave them after the summer window.
Covering that piece, BeIN Sports features an article claiming the director is then ‘preparing his bags’ to move to England, and that’s where Newcastle get a mention.
It’s claimed Chelsea and ‘especially Newcastle’ have Mitchell ‘in the sights’ to be their new director of football.
The story explains that Mitchel has ‘succumbed’ to the interest from the Premier League, and is set to return to his home country.
But L’Equipe’s story makes it very clear that there are still a few months before Mitchell leaves Monaco.
Besides working for the club in the next transfer window, he’s also helping them to find his own successor.
Therefore, Newcastle have enough time to analyse the possibility of signing him and work to convince him to take the job.
