Benfica manager Roger Schmidt is doing his best to put to an end to rumours linking Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea.

The Blues’ attempt to sign the midfielder continues to be a big subject in the Portuguese media, and with the coach today holding a press conference, he was once again asked about the potential transfer.

Schmidt, however, didn’t give much credit to the Chelsea rumours, claiming Fernandez is ready to play for Benfica again.

“I already said, this subject is finished. He’s one of our players. He’s happy, training well, he’s part of the team. Everything has been said,” said Roger Schmidt (via O Jogo).

Following Chelsea’s first attempt to sign Fernandez, the midfielder went on an unauthorised trip to Argentina for New Year’s Eve, and missed a couple of training sessions at Benfica. That’s why he was punished by the club and did not make it to the squad which faced Portimonense on Friday.

Following the absence, the player is now set to feature in tonight’s match against Varzim, for the Portuguese cup, as Benfica prepare for the important Lisbon derby against Sporting at the weekend.

Now despite the many stories about the end of negotiations between the Eagles and Chelsea, newspaper O Jogo recently insisted that the deal is still possible, with agent Jorge Mendes still working on it.
