Yukinari Sugawara joined Southampton in the summer 2024 window and was a regular for the club until towards the end of the season.
The Saints were relegated to the Championship in April, having looked doomed for quite some time, and the right-sided player was one of those who turned to the exit door.
Sugawara had to wait until the end of August to secure a loan move away from Southampton and had already made a couple of appearances in the Championship.
Werder Bremen stepped in to sign the Japan international on loan for the season. The Bundesliga club have an option to buy the player at the end of the loan spell.
So far he’s started three Bundesliga games, including the 3-0 loss to SC Freiburg at the weekend. Bild say it was his worst performance of the three and he was taken off after 75 minutes.
After the match, the Southampton owned player was upset. He feels he’s struggling to settle because he hasn’t been able to secure an apartment.
Bild quote Sugawara as saying: “I haven’t found an apartment yet. It’s very difficult here. I constantly have to eat out at restaurants. It stresses me out. I want an apartment where I can relax and cook.
“I was satisfied with the first two games against Leverkusen and Gladbach. But this time it was unacceptable for me.”
