Considering Tottenham have never spent over £45m on a player, we find the upcoming rumour hard to believe, but we would be remiss if we didn’t at least relay it solely for entertainment purposes.
As you might know by now, L’Equipe reported this morning that Liverpool had made a €72m + €8m bid for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, a well-known long-term Arsenal target.
Well, Le10 Sport in France claim to have an update on the situation, and they hint the Ligue 1 club could be inclined to say yes to the Reds’ offer, but are willing to wait a little bit… just in case Tottenham show up.
They believe Daniel Levy could wade in with his chequebook ‘in the coming hours’ and trump FSG’s offer.
As explained above, this seems rather unlikely, especially with Tottenham having already splurged on Davinson Sanchez, but few expected Neymar to join Paris Saint-Germain, so anything can happen this summer, it seems.
Le10 do maintain that if Tottenham don’t make a bid, then Lemar has strong chances of ending up at Anfield in a move that would really annoy Arsène Wenger.
