Apparently, Everton are looking for a new director of football and have targeted Marcel Brands, according to an exclusive by TuttoMercatoWeb.
This isn’t exactly news, considering it’s been covered quite a lot by the Dutch media recently, suggesting he could edge Steve Walsh to one side, with the former Leicester man ‘acting more like a chief scout these days’ anyways.
The director of football has even commented on the possibility of joining the Toffees, saying the interest was ‘flattering’, but also hinted he could turn it down, insisting he wasn’t a ‘club hopper’.
Therefore, the fact TuttoMercatoWeb are claiming it as an exclusive is a bit cheeky.
The Italian website state that ‘first contacts’ have already taken place between the two parties, which, well, should be obvious if Marcel Brands is already aware of the Toffees’ interest in his services.
We’ve questioned the motives behind these stories in the past, and it seems to always come back to Brands looking good to PSV fans as it showcases his loyalty to the club, whilst fishing for a move to the Premier League.
A similar ‘saga’, if you want to call it that, happened with Chelsea interest, but that disappeared as quickly as it appeared.
This is nothing new, and Everton’s interest in Brands, if there is any, certainly isn’t an exclusive.
