Newcastle United picked up a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
While Eddie Howe’s side are making good progress this season and are in with the chance of winning silverware, the January transfer window gives them an opportunity to improve their squad.
Today, the Magpies have been linked with a shock move for Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
This comes from Corriere dello Sport, who state that the Italian side want €80m for the player and Paris Saint-Germain are actively working on the move. There is also interest from Newcastle United and it’s claimed they are trying to muscle in on the situation.
The Georgian is interested in an exit this month and there is also an opening for a transfer from Napoli, who are struggling to secure him to a new deal on better terms than what he is earning right now.
While Newcastle United have been previously linked with a move for Kvaratskhelia, a transfer now will seem complex due to PSR regulations. A transfer would require big sales and none of those seem in sight.
Just like the German press appear to be doing with Donyell Malen, perhaps the media close to Napoli is trying to use Newcastle United to pressure others.
