Following the rollercoaster that was the summer of 2015 for David De Gea, this latest transfer window was relatively quiet.
Other than the odd attempt from a smaller publication to reboot the Real Madrid stories, there was very little attention given to a potential transfer for the Spain number one goalkeeper.
The arrival of José Mourinho at Manchester United and Zinedine Zidane’s faith in Keylor Navas had a lot to do with it, but with the Costa Rican starting to make a few mistakes for Real Madrid of late, reports in Spain of an interest in De Gea are starting to build again.
Inda said: “There’s faith in Keylor Navas, but there’s also a bit of worry creeping in. He hasn’t had the best performances in Dortmund or against Eibar. The belief is De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world, and I’m starting to think, just a feeling, that De Gea will play at Madrid next season.
“I’m not talking for the sake of it, and I think he’ll come next year. He didn’t come this season because Zidane asked the president to keep Keylor Navas because, as well as winning the Champions League, he was getting along well with his teammates and he didn’t want to harm the group.”
This certainly isn’t a guarantee that Real Madrid will return to the fray next summer, especially if their transfer ban is upheld, but if true, it’s a sign they could at some point in the future.
At the end of the day, it also depends how well Manchester United are doing at the time.
This is a story gaining traction in Spain, and don’t be surprised if it starts appearing elsewhere very soon.
