Already out of Stoke City’s plans for the season, Giannelli Imbula alienated himself even more on Wednesday when he labelled his transfer to bet365 Stadium as the worst choice of his career.
The former Marseille midfielder made it clear he wants to leave the Championship side if he can this summer, training with the club’s U23s for the time being, and clubs have taken notice.
Club Brugge in Belgium have placed him on their list as they need a defensive midfielder after selling Marvelous Nakamba to Aston Villa, but they aren’t the only ones.
According to Ouest-France, one of his former clubs, En Avant Guingamp, who got relegated to Ligue 2 last season, ‘enquired about the possibility of bringing Giannelli Imbula back’.
However, despite his desire to leave, Imbula is said to target the ‘elite’, meaning higher tiers of football, and didn’t pursue the idea of returning to the north of France.
Since joining Stoke back in 2016, the midfielder has only appeared 28 times for the club, spending the rest of his time out on loan, first at Toulouse and then Rayo Vallecano last season.
