Every day this week, we’ve covered something to do with Steven N’Zonzi, or, at least, it feels like it.
The French midfielder is the flavour of the week in Spain at the moment after his impressive performance, and goal, against Atlético Madrid at the weekend, and his contract renewal is making all the headlines.
Radio Marca, relayed by Marca, even went out of their way to speak to Stoke defender Marc Muniesa about the defensive midfielder, and asked him about the two years the pair spent together in the Premier League after N’Zonzi’s arrival from Blackburn.
He said: “They were two very good years for the club, and during those two seasons, he played at a very high level. Steven, on the pitch, imposes himself a lot with a spectacular physical ability.”
Off the pitch, however, the former Barcelona defender described the strong Sevilla talisman as a ‘very quiet guy, even if we got along well’.
Explaining that all the French players (Samir Nasri, Wissam Ben Yedder, Adil Rami and Kevin Gameiro before them) getting along well in Seville makes his time there better, Muniesa wasn’t surprised when his friend left for a bigger team.
He explained: “It surprised me that he hadn’t left before to a ‘top’ Premier League side, but he left for Sevilla who are now playing in the Champions League, and the moment he got the offer, I could see him really wanting to go.”
With a release clause currently standing at €30m and an offer from Leicester rejected in the summer, it appears Sevilla is where N’Zonzi wants to stay.
After all, they are currently ahead of both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid in La Liga.
