Viktor Johansson has been a key player for Stoke City this season.
The 27-year-old has played 14 games in the Championship, helping them to second position in the table.
The goalkeeper’s national side – Sweden, has been undergoing a period of difficulty. Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked after a string of poor results in World Cup qualification. He was replaced by Graham Potter.
Despite this upheaval, the Stoke City player is expected to continue to be Sweden’s first-choice. He recently took over from Robin Olsen, which saw the veteran publicly refuse to play for Jon Dahl Tomasson again.
Stoke City stopper to continue in goal
Potter selected four goalkeepers for the upcoming international break. SVT expect him to use Johansson as the first-choice.
Speaking of his decision about goalkeepers, the Englishman said: “The important thing for me has been to watch the younger goalkeepers in training like Noel and Jacob (Widell Zetterström). That’s important to me. That’s why I’ve taken four goalkeepers out.”
Sweden play Switzerland and Slovenia next and need good results.
Mark Robins’ side will hope that Johansson stays fit during the international break, hoping he returns to Stoke City fully fit.
