Last summer, Standard Liège made a concrete attempt to sign Stoke City’s Eric Bocat.

On September 8th, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported the Belgian club wanted to sign him on loan with a €2m purchase clause. He also said the Frenchman had pushed for the move.

A day later, Het Nieuwsblad reported the Stoke City player had agreed terms with Standard Liège. However, the Potters refused to sanction a move as they couldn’t sign a replacement. The window in Belgium closed a week after the one in the UK.

The newspaper also reported the Jupiler Pro League side could finalise the deal for the 26-year-old in the winter market.

Fast forward to December and Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover the latest.

Standard Liège are still prioritising strengthening the left-back position and the Stoke City man remains their No.1 target.

He claims the defender continues to have the Belgian club on his mind. The journalist adds his performances for Mark Robins’ side have seen him receive offers from other clubs, without providing any further details.

Bocat’s contract lasts until 2028. Stoke City will have the final word on whether to let him leave in January.

The fullback has played 10 matches for the English club this season.
