Djibril Soumare spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Sheffield United and is now nearing a move to Stoke City.
For the Blades, the midfielder played 25 Championship games, featuring for over 1000 minutes. Towards the end of the campaign, his situation wasn’t great as Soumare was often out of the squad.
The reasons for that were unknown but the 23-year-old did quite well in his first spell in England.
Sport Witness have covered how there were doubts about his permanent stay as far back as March. Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premier League could’ve sealed the permanent deal but they finished a disappointing 13th.
Despite that, Soumare looks set to get a new lease of life with Stoke City.

Portuguese journalist Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto now reports confidently about Soumare’s future.
He expects the player to join Stoke City permanently, noting that the ‘clock is ticking’ for the deal to finalise and things are going in the right direction.
The ex-Sheffield United man will travel to England ‘in the next few hours’. He will undergo a medical soon after, even if the exact date for that remains unknown.
Stoke City are expected to pay €4m to €5m, with all of that going down as a capital gain for Braga. They signed him for free in 2022 and Soumare has come through the Portuguese club’s youth setup since then.
