We all know there’s been a great relationship between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Mexico since Raul Jimenez signed for the club.
While Wolves interact with Mexican fans on Twitter and have even been playing with a green kit, the media from the Latin country gives big coverage to the Premier League side.
However, Wolves are still to be internationally considered a big club. And that’s why the Mexican press still want to see Raul Jimenez playing somewhere else, with Arsenal and Chelsea getting a mention today.
Marca’s Mexico edition today brings an interview with three personalities who are expecting big things for the striker’s future. The first of them was Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez, who expects Jimenez to make the ‘jump’ to a bigger side.
“I see him fully mature already. It’s true that in Spain he didn’t do well and in Portugal, more or less. But I’m convinced that his moment at Wolves will give him a great opportunity to make the jump to a more important team.
“Raul, nowadays, knows how to handle himself in a difficult context, he knows how to play, when to drive the ball, pass, finish… He has personality and effectiveness, as well as being a leader when required. The team revolves around him and he’s already a heavyweight boy in England.”
The second interviewee was manager Javier Aguirre, who has big experience in European clubs, and has a few suggestions about where should Jimenez play in the future.
“Of course yes. He has all the numbers for that. He’s a good player, scorer, who knows how to play in the box… and also outside. I’d like to see him at a great from England, an Arsenal, a Chelsea. There he could play perfectly now.”
Finally, it was manager Miguel Herrera who says he expects Jimenez to receive attention from a European giant.
“From Mexico we see very well what Raul is doing. He’s working very well, we think he can go to a club among the greats of Europe, without a doubt. I think he can represent Mexican football very well. I don’t think that he’d go the levels of Hugo Sánchez, yes, because Hugo started very young and when he arrived at Atlético and Real Madrid, he grew up there.
“Raul had to grow in other clubs, but I think he’s doing things very well and nowadays I think he can be seen by some team of the so-called big ones in Europe, either in any of the three or four big leagues: Italy, Germany and, of course, Spain and England, where he already is. We see him very well and I think he’s doing a great job.”
