Currently at the national team camp, Fulham midfielder João Palhinha had a word with the Portuguese media ahead of the upcoming friendlies.
The 27-year-old was interviewed by Sport TV (via Record), and talked about what he can bring to Roberto Martinez’s side during the international break.
“I hope to do my job. Not only in the midfield, but in attack and defence, we have a lot of very good players and that spreads the quality of our football well. I hope to be a good headache for the coach,” João Palhinha told Record.
Palhinha also mentioned his aspirations at Fulham, insisting he’s focused on doing well for the Whites in the final part of the season.
“I want to continue to grow as a player at Fulham and I always dream of being part of the national team.”
Portugal are facing Liechtenstein on the 23rd of March, and then playing Luxemburg on the 26th. Palhinha spent most of the World Cup on the bench, and now works to prove himself to the new manager as he tries to find a place in the team.
His quick adaptation to the Premier League, though, should help him with that. The midfielder was signed by Fulham in a €20m deal with Sporting last summer and immediately became an important player for the Whites, making 29 appearances so far and being one of the reasons for Marco Silva’s success.
The London side are back in action on the 1st of April, as they visit Bournemouth.
